Jamboree Week Shaping Up

By Jeff Gulley

The John Brown Jamboree is a month away and plans are almost set for four-day festival.

Toby’s Carnival is back this year and will open on Wednesday, June 15.

The annual Jamboree parade on June 16 will honor the 150th anniversary of Kansas. The best-themed float will win $200, with $100 for second place and $50 for third. All payments will be made with checks.

Other prizes include $15 and ribbon for first-place adult rider and horse, and $10 for second-place adult rider and horse. Trophy and ribbons will be awarded for first- and second-place age 12 and younger rider and horse.

Trophies will be presented for best classic car, best antique car and best antique tractor. Ribbons and $10 will be awarded for best-decorated pet, best clown, and best-decorated bicycle.

Other events Thursday include the First Presbyterian Church cookout, the Community of Christ ice cream social and the Osawatomie school summer band concert and the Band of Oz concert.

Many other events are being planned and a complete list will appear in the May 25 and June 1 editions of the Journal.

One event that has been announced is the Saturday night concert with country music recording artist Chuck Wicks. There will be a minimal charge for the concert this year to offset the cost.
