Genealogy Workshop Set For Saturday in Parker

A genealogy and membership workshop will be conducted Saturday in the Parker Elementary School, 421 N. Center Ave. Hours for the workshop are from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The workshop, which is open to the public, is being sponsored by the Marais des Cygne Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Kansas Society of the DAR and the Parker Elementary School Computer Lab. Pamela S. Harrington-Hennigh of rural Centerville is regent of the host chapter.

The Marais des Cygne Chapter has members in Louisburg, Paola, Osawatomie, Lane, La Cygne, Parker and Centerville.

If you have ever wondered about the history of your great-great-grandmother or any other relative, this workshop will sharpen your knowledge about how to find a lot of interesting facts about them in a relative short time.

There will be no charge for this workshop. Computers will be available, provided by the Parker School computer lab.

Participants will also be able to find out if they are eligible to be a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, from both long-time members and members working on their papers to join.

All DAR chapters in the Southeast District have been invited. They are Cofachique in Iola; Council Oak in Council Grove, Emporia in Emporia; Esther Lowery in Independence, Kan.; Four Winds in Garnett; General Edward Hand in Ottawa; Isabella Weldin in Augusta; Jand Dean Coffey in Coffeyville; Molly Foster Berry in Fort Scott; Oceanus Hopkins in Pittsburg; Peleg Gorton in Winfield; Susannah French Putney in El Dorado; and the Paola chapter. Hennigh is the Southeast District director.

Cookies and ice tea will be available. After the closing at promptly 1 p.m., those attending may stop off for a meal at the Parker 1-Stop.
