Softball Team Gets Regional Win

By Jeff Gulley

The Osawatomie softball team advanced to the second round of regional play with a 4-0 win at Prairie View Monday.

The Trojans scored runs in each of the first four innings and used some stellar glove work to hold off the Buffalos.

Osawatomie scored in the first inning and took a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the inning. Prairie View threatened with a runner on third with no outs but third baseman Lindsey Outler snagged a line drive and was able to tag the runner diving back to third for a double play.

In the second inning, Tess Newport drove in the Trojans’ second run with a triple. Again Prairie View answered getting a runner to third with no outs but Alyssa Drake pitched her way out of the jam, getting the next three batters.

Osawatomie scored again in the third inning. In the bottom of the inning, Newport made a shoe-string catch of a line drive and the Buffalos went down in order.

Drake drove in Marley Murrow in the fourth inning for the Trojans’ fourth run of the game.

From there the Trojan defense was perfect. Outler made three put-outs from third base and the Buffalos never threatened again.

The win was a mild upset. Prairie View was the four seed and Osawatomie was seeded fifth.

The Trojans were at home Tuesday for the regional finals. They played Paola in the first round Tuesday afternoon. Results from the game will be on the Journal Web site Wednesday morning.
