Trojans Qualify Eight For State Track Meet

Osawatomie is sending three regional champions and eight athletes to the state track meet this weekend in Wichita.
Tayler Soucie won regional gold in the 100- and 300-meter hurdles and Brandon Oakes won the 300-meter hurdles at the qualifying meet in Ottawa Friday night.
Soucie won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.36. The second-place time was 16.19. Soucie had the best qualifing time with a 15.58. In the 300-hurdles, Soucie ran away from the pack with a time of 47.75. Soucie also qualified for state in the triple jump finishing second with a jump of 35-00.25.
Cassie Moulthrop was second in the long jump with a jump of 16-07.25. Rebecca Fisher was fourth in the discus throwing 103-4.
Oakes won the 300-hurdles with a time of 41.84. He was nearly a second faster than the second-place finisher.
The 4×800 relay team also accomplished its goal of making it to state. Jerrod Bechtel, Grant Maimer, DJ Hollman and Doug Kueser finished third in the distance relay with a time of 8:44.48.
For Prairie View, Emily Feldman will represent the girls’ team after qualifying for state in the long jump and triple jump. Feldman won the long jump at regional with a jump of 16-08. She took third in the triple jump with a 34-09.25.
The Prairie View boys took fifth at state behind six state qualifiers. Taylor Brown won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:01. He was also a member of the 4×100-meter relay team that took third. Brown along with Tyler Brown, Stefan Davis and Jordan Halaquist ran a time of 44.86.
Also qualifying for state was Jayce Phelps who took second in the pole vault clearing 14-0. Logan Smith took second in the discus with a throw of 140-02.
The state track meet begins Friday afternoon for class 4A and continues on Saturday at Wichita State University.
