Fire Destroys Home On Plum Creek Road

By Jeff Gulley

Osawatomie firefighters were called to a home fire of one of their own early Monday morning.

A home rented by Osawatomie volunteer firefighter Travis Brewer at 35124 Plum Creek Road, was destroyed by the fire.

According to Osawatomie Fire Chief DuWayne Tewes, the fire was discovered by the owner, Tom Brewer who lives across the street. After hearing a dog barking just after midnight, Brewer was alerted to the fire.

The fire is still under investigation.

“We have called in the State fire marshal,” Tewes said. “There is nothing suspicious but we were unable to determine a cause due to the significant damage and requested outside assistance since it is the residence of one of our members. After meeting with the fire marshal, no cause could be determined by electrical circuits and appliances connected to them could not be eliminated.”

The house and contents were a total loss, Tewes said.
