Raiders Sweep Baxter Springs Tourney

After a win in Ottawa last weekend, the Osawatomie Raiders American Legion baseball team went undefeated to win the Baxter Springs tournament at the Field of Dreams.

The Raiders dominated the Blacksocks Sunday afternoon 18-3 in the championship game.

With 10 runs in the first inning, Osawatomie put the game away early and cruised to the championship.

Eight of the nine batters in the lineup scored in the first inning. Austin Chisam and Chance Sinclair each scored twice. Chisam scored four times in the game with a single, double and two walks. Cody Applegarth and Clayton Lee each scored three times. Spencer Booe tripled and drove in four runs.

Brant Johnson was the winning pitcher.

The Raiders cruised to the championship with four wins on Friday and Saturday. The Saturday wins were both against Baxter Springs teams.

Osawatomie won against the Baxter Springs number two team 15-1. It was another big first inning for the Raiders with 12 runs. Booe drove in the first run hitting a triple to score Chisam. Then Dustin Ohlmeier, Drew Needham, Applegarth, Mitch Talley and Lee all scored. Chisam walked for the second time in the inning and scored on a single by Booe. Sinclair, Ohlmeier and Johnson scored.

Needham and Morgan Roth combined on the mound for the win.

The closest game of the tournament came Saturday against the Baxter Springs number one team. The Raiders held on for an 8-7 win.

Osawatomie scored three in the first inning with a big hit coming on a triple by Ohlmeier.

The lead grew to five when Osawatomie scored two more in the top of the third. Booe tripled and scored along with Ohlmeier.

Baxter Springs scored one in the bottom of the third and took the lead with six runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Chisam and Booe scored in the top of the sixth to tie the game. Applegarth singled and scored in the seventh and Sinclair held Baxter Springs scoreless in the bottom of the inning for the win.

The tournament began for Osawatomie with a 10-8 win over Riverton and a 10-7 win over Ketchem.

Booe scored three runs and had three hits against Riverton. Chisam and Johnson shared pitching duties.

Chisam had three hits and Booe and Sinclair scored three runs each in the win against Ketchem. Sinclair and Booe were pitchers.
