Katie’s Korner, Satin Wants His Weather Back
EVERYONE is talking about it, but no one is doing anything about it – the weather that is. It was still 98 degrees at 8:45 p.m. Monday when I began to write this column. My eldest son David sent me a road sign sitting in the center of a street in what looks like a small burg. The side read: “Satin Called, He Wants His Weather Back”. Well, he can have it as far as I am concerned. The temperature forecast for Tuesday is 106 degrees.
EVERYONE is also talking about the extension of the national debt ceiling. Our country is in such a complicated mess that I truly don’t think anyone in government knows what they are doing and I am totally certain the average individual hasn’t a clue about what is going on. And, I will be the first to say I don’t. In addition, I don’t think you can put a finger on any one certain president or on any certain party or any one certain senator or representative to blame. This mess has been brought on over many years, and just getting deeper and deeper and deeper every step of the way.
WE have been far too generous with other countries, more or less buying their favoritism. Our country has poured money into other country’s coffers, draining our own coffers. Our government officials have dipped into social security trust funds and other types of funds, leaving IOU notes. We just keep spending and printing more dollars (dollars which don’t buy near as much as they use to) and borrowing from China. Well, I am not sure we can borrow from China any longer. I think they have cut us off. They don’t need us anymore. They have already own us!
OUR country has poured millions into the Libra fracas. We have had military forces separating the North and South Korea for years. We have military forces in counties all over the world, trying to keep peace, when sometimes it doesn’t even seem they want peace. It costs billions and billions to keep those troops there. Maybe we ought to bring them home and park them down along our border with Mexico to keep the cheap illegal drugs from coming into our country. But if we bring all our troops home, what will they do. We don’t manufacture much anything anymore. We have exhausted our supplies of copper, gold and other precious metals.
IT IS time we began to worry about situations in our country and try to solve some of the issues here. One can’t turn on the news without hearing about drive-by shootings and murders and rapes and kidnappings and more. These may seem minor, but it is spreading like wildfire.
I WISH that our country could once again have the patriotism it showed during World War II. I wasn’t very old then, but I know the entire United States put its shoulder to the wheel and did what it could to keep its people safe. Those who didn’t share the load if they could wasn’t thought too highly of.
WELL, I have poured out my feelings and my concerns for our beloved United States of America. Maybe you all don’t see it like I do, but that is your privilege. I wish I had the wisdom to solve all these problems, but I don’t. I am sure many of our readers feel the very same way.
HAPPY TRAILS to you until we meet again!
