City-Wide Recycling Begins Monday

By Jeff Gulley

This is the final week for twice-weekly trash service as Osawatomie residents move to city-wide recycling starting Monday.

L&K Services dropped off blue recycling containers to residents last week and starting Monday, recycling will be picked up on Mondays and Tuesday and trash service will be on Thursday and Friday.

Bryce Smith, L&K Services’ manager, said residents will have the same pickup days as before. If your trash service was Monday and Thursday, recycling will be picked up Monday and trash on Thursday. The same goes for Tuesday, Friday pickups.

While there is no limit on how much recycling will be picked up each week, there is a limit on trash. Smith said that each resident will be limited to three 30-gallon bags, three containers or the 96-gallon tote. Any additional 30-gallon bags can be picked up if they have a pre-paid sticker on them. Stickers can be purchased at city hall or Moon’s Hometown Market. The cost is 10 for $15.

Smith said every attempt will be made to assist the elderly or handicapped residents who cannot get their recycling tote to the curb. Those residents should call L&K Services for assistance.

Bulky item pickup days will remain unchanged and tire pickup will still be offered once a year with a limit of six per household.

More information about yard waste pickup will be made available in coming weeks.

A complete list of what is recyclable and regulations about the new program can be found on the L&K Web site www.ktrashservices.com.

Examples of the 23-gallon and 68-gallon recycling containers can be viewed at city hall.
