Volleyball Team Wins Central Heights Tourney

After falling to Sante Fe Trail in the opening match of the Central Heights tournament, the Osawatomie Trojans rebounded to beat that same team for the tournament title.

In the opening match, Osawatomie fell 25-16, 27-25 to Sante Fe Trail. Tayler Soucie had 13 kills and Tess Newport had 14 assists.

The Trojans got on track in their next match beating Uniontown 25-23, 25-19. Soucie had eight kills and Newport had six. Rebecca Fisher added three kills.

The third opponent was Erie and the Trojans needed three sets to put them away winning 25-21, 19-25, 25-17. Soucie had 15 kills and Newport had 17 assists.

Against Girard in the next match, Osawatomie won 25-20, 25-20 behind 12 kills from Soucie and 14 assists from Newport. Jordan Nichols had three aces in the match while Kaylee Hurt and Suzy Waddle each had two.

In the final against Sante Fe Trail, the Trojans won 25-19, 25-20. Soucie had 12 kills and Newport had 14 assists.

Osawatomie went 1-2 in matches during the week losing to Central Heights and Wellsville and beating Prairie View in Pioneer League play.

Osawatomie dropped a match on Oct. 11 against Central Heights 21-25, 25-10, 8-25. Soucie had 17 kills and Kandice Firley and Fisher each had three. Newport had 19 assists. Nichols had five aces.

Osawatomie beat Prairie View 25-17, 17-25, 25-15. Soucie had 17 kills and Newport had 18 assists.

In the final home game of the season Thursday night, Osawatomie fell to Wellsville 20-25, 25-20, 14-25. Soucie had 16 kills and Newport had 18.

The Trojans wore pink in the match to bring awareness to breast cancer.
