Buffalos Drop Two At Iola Triangular
Prairie View dropped two matches against Iola and Fort Scott at a triangular in Iola.
Prairie View’s first match was against the host team, the Iola Fillies. They lost the first game 9-25. It just seemed like they couldn’t find any momentum.
The second game showed some glimpses of the teams potential. With a few less missed serves, Prairie View could have easily made the match go to three games, but they fell a little short losing 20-25. Next they faced the Fort Scott Tigers. The first game of the match proved to be another fight as the Buffalos tried to find their rhythm. They just couldn’t seem to find the break they were looking for and lost 12-25. Although the second game faired better they came out on the losing side, losing 19 to 25.
First-year head coach Kaitlin Jones is seeing some new faces on the team this year, different from the ones she saw last year as an assistant coach.
“There are seniors coming out for the first year and then some freshman that are battling for varsity time,” Jones said. “The group that played on Thursday played great compared to our first tournament.”
Jones said she has a good feeling about the group of six that played, but since they are such a young team she is constantly reevaluating the starting unit trying to find the ones that work the best together.
With no returning starters it may take some time to gain the camaraderie and experience but there are high hopes for this group of girls once they find their rhythm.
One thing Jones saw as a strong point for the girls, was they played more like a team did better communicating in their second outing.
“Communication and playing together is one of the most important aspects of volleyball,” she said. “Talking is key whether it’s in a game or at practice for a team to play together.”
Jones has a good feeling about the potential of this team. The Junior Varsity lost its first two games to Iola 17-25 an 18-25. In the second match they faced Fort Scott and won the first game 25-22 and then after they were ahead most of the game Fort Scott slowly started fighting back. Fort Scott was the first to reach 24 points but Prairie View shut down their hopes by coming back to win 26 to 24. Prairie View also played Tuesday but the results were not available.
