Olathe police today tentatively identified a body found in a remote area as that of a missing Linn County man.
A police spokesman reported that officers were dispatched to an area near 151st Street and South Lone Elm Road at 6:10 p.m. Friday after a caller reported finding a car associated with Joshua Hancock, 21.
Police said the car had apparently left the roadway and ended up 60 feet away in a tree line. While authorities tentatively identified the body as Hancock’s, police said a formal identification will come later. Officials also are awaiting a cause of death, pending completion of an autopsy.
Police canceled a scheduled search for Hancock today.
Hancock, a Pittsburg State student, was last seen early on Aug. 5 at JR’s Place in the Great Mall of the Great Plains in Olathe.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Olathe police at 913-971-7455 or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
