Locker Room Going Out Of Business

The Locker Room sporting goods store will be closing its doors this fall.
Owner Susie Jones said the sluggish economy and a steady decline in sales have forced her to shut down the business, located at 522 Main St.
“Our last day this month will be Aug. 28,” Jones said. “We will be open on the east side of the building on Saturdays through the end of September.”
She will rent the west side of the building to Donna & Viola’s screen printing and embroidery business.
Jones said her decision to shut down had nothing to do with the Streetscape downtown construction this summer.
“It’s not the street project,” she said. “We’ve seen a steady decline in business the past couple of years.”
Jones has placed a “going out of business” sign in her window.
“People aren’t going to realize until they run down here for an emergency that we’re gone, and they should have used us more than just for emergencies,” she said. “I found the best way to get people in was to put a going out of business sale sign in the window.”
Jones hopes people will shop in Osawatomie first, before looking elsewhere.
“I hope people will support businesses instead of using them for their convenience,” she said. “Otherwise, we’re going to see others go out of business.”
Jones said she appreciates the regular customers who have shopped at the Locker Room, which she has owned since January 2001.
“I want to thank the people we’ve had as loyal customers, and I’ve enjoyed their business,” she said.
