Trojans Fall 70-8 To Panthers In Districts

By Jeff Gulley

The latest installment of the annual tom-tom game between Osawatomie and Paola was one the Trojans would like soon to forget.

It played out like every football team’s worse nightmare. Paola shredded the Trojans on the ground gaining 522 rushing yards in a 70-8 win.

Paola jumped out to a three-touchdown lead in the first quarter. Sklyer Hawkins rushing for touchdowns of 4, 36 and 16 yards.

Quickly, a Seth Jones to Brandon Oakes pass gave Osawatomie a glimmer of hope. Oakes hauled in the pass and raced 80-yards for a touchdown to cut the lead to 21-8.

But as quickly as hope arrived, it vanished with a 34-yard run by Tyler Henness. That touchdown was followed by a 34-yard run by Seth Kern, a 77-yard run by Henness and a 9-yard run by Kern.

Paola took a 49-8 lead into halftime. They scored three more times in the third quarter on runs by Henness, Hawkins and Tanner Staats.

Jones completed 17 of 40 passes for 185 yards and was the leading rusher with 33 yards. Oakes caught six passes for 140 yards and Josh Criddle caught five passes for 17 yards.

Brant Jones led the defense with 8 tackles and Mitch Talley had 7.
