Trojans Fall To Wildcats In District Play

The Trojans were no match for the undefeated Louisburg Wildcats Friday night.

The Wildcats rushed for 426 yards and eight touchdowns in a 62-8 win in the second round of district play. The loss clinched a playoff berth for Louisburg and Paola.

Louisburg took a 49-0 lead into the locker room, scoring 35 points in the second quarter after Osawatomie held the ball for an extended drive to begin the game but stalled out on the Wildcats’ side of the field.

After Louisburg got the ball, Garrett Griffin broke several tackles and ran 58 yards for a touchdown on the Wildcats’ first play from scrimmage, foreshadowing what would be a long night for the Trojans.

It only took Louisburg two plays to find the end zone on their next possession when senior fullback Alex Gentges burst through the line and raced 47 yards for a touchdown.

The Wildcats tacked on five more touchdowns in the second quarter.

Junior running back Nick Chapman scored on a 15-yard run midway through the third quarter, and sophomore kicker Jason Danciak booted the extra point to give Louisburg a score of 56-0.

Osawatomie quarterback Seth Jones scrambled for a 13-yard touchdown, breaking several tackles in the process, early in the fourth quarter to cut the Wildcats’ lead to 56-6.

Louisburg scored on a 66-yard sweep around the right side on the ensuing series to provide the Wildcats with their final touchdown

Jones finished the game with 120 passing yards on 17 of 28 passing. Austin Chisam caught four passes for 46 yards and Brandon Oakes caught five for 35 yards. Allen Raymer caught five passes for 20 yards. Cody Appegarth caught two passes and Josh Criddle caught one.

Jones was the leading rusher with 52 yards. Oakes had 29 yards.

Mitch Talley led the defense with seven tackles and Appegarth had five.

The final game of the season will be played Thursday night in Osawatomie. The opponent will be Spring Hill, a team which is also looking for its first district win.
