Cross Country Team Competes At Regionals

By Jeff Gulley

The cross country season came to an end for Osawatomie Saturday at the Anderson County Regional.

The Trojans will not be sending a runner to the state meet but first-year coach Matt Higgins saw a lot of improvement by a large group of runners this season and the outlook for the program is bright.

At regionals, Britnie Wright paced the girls’ team finishing 51st overall with a time of 20:09. Natalia Diediker was 71st with a time of 23:01. Ariel Cooley was 74th and Kelly Stemple was 75th.

Paola won the regional with 47 points. Chanute was second with Santa Fe Trail coming in third place.

Maci Roy of Prairie View was 7th overall with a time of 17:19 which earned her a spot at state.

Grant Maimer was the top Trojan runner in the boys’ race. Maimer finished in 30th place with a time of 19:37. Doug Kueser was 43rd with a time of 20:05 and Devon Dozier used a strong finish to come in 48th with a time of 20:12. D.J. Holloman was close behind in 50th place with a time of 20:14. Cody Applegarth was 54th, Nick Lewis was 71st and Jerrod Bechtol was 85th.

The Trojans’ varsity team was full of freshmen and sophomores which bodes well for the future of both teams. On both the boys’ and girls’ teams, only Diediker is a senior.
