Down Through The Years: Nov 10, 2010

One of the most delightful events from as musical standpoint that the patrons of music have enjoyed for some time occurred at the Baptist Church last Friday evening, when the pupils of Miss Katherine Potts gave their recital, for their parents and friends. Miss Potts is to be complimented upon the large number of pupils she has under her instruction here and the marked degree of excellence that they show in their musical work. Following is the list of those who participated in the recital:

Misses Youmans and Cook, Miss Lucile Braun, Pearl Chamberlain, Pauline Busch, Lucile Braun, Pearl Chamberlain, Earl and Dorris Miller, Gladys Alger, Lucile Jackson, Viola Troxel, Maude Carr, Edna and Eunice Cole, Rolla Maxwell, Lydia Hudson, Esther Thompson, Willard Cook, Esse McDonald, Dorothy Hoffman, Beryle Gardner, Katherine Rue, Lillian Gooding, Valeria Baker, Mary Beeson, Louise Jackson, Winona Youmans.

75 Years Ago

Five of the seven Ricci brothers were present for a reunion dinner served at the home of Nick Ricci, in Paola Sunday. The five brothers were Mike and Joe from Osawatomie, Ruggero and Alberto from North Bay, Ontario and Nick of Paola. A nephew Pasquale Bevilacqua was also here from Ontario. The other brothers, Frank and Tony, are in Italy but both have been in Osawatomie.

Others at Nick’s for dinner are as follows: Mrs. Mike Ricci and sons, Angelo, Orlando, Alberto and Romano; Mrs. Joe Ricci and son Oldurico; Mrs. Nick Ricci and son Gino; Mrs. Alberto Ricci and Catherina and Mrs. Mike Ricci’s sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. John Baade of Leavenworth.

Mike Ricci came to Osawatomie twenty-seven years ago and has been in business here for the past twenty-four years.

The Vogue Shop this week announces a plan whereby through the cooperation of its customers and others the needy people of the community will be helped.

The plan which will go into effect Friday and lasts until Thanksgiving, is this. Any person on presentation at the store of an old garment, men’s, women’s or child’s will receive $5 to apply on any purchase of $20 or more. Garments turned in on this offer will in turn be distributed to the unemployed and needy.

Mrs. Edna Roberts was hostess to the Monday meeting of the Better Homes and Gardens club, with Ann Bruntz as co-hostess.

Latona Wagers, president, called the meeting to order and 22 members answered roll call with a short, unusual item you have read.” Each member brought a flower arrangement of her choice.

Katherine Gunn received a beautiful vase as a door prize. The hostesses served refreshments in keeping with the Halloween theme.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mitchell and Brenda of Topeka spent the week end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. F. Brownlee, Jack and John. Mrs. Mitchell and Brenda will spend the next 6 months with her parents while Mr. Mitchell is one duty with the Air Force in Turkey.

Four new members will take over duties on the board of directors of the Osawatomie Chamber of Commerce Jan. 1. The names of the new directors were announced Oct. 29 during the annual chamber meeting. The new directors are Shirley Cherry, owner of Hanes Florist and Greenhouse; Harold Nye, business manager at Osawatomie State Hospital; Darrel Franklin, president of First National Bank and Trust Co.; and Tony Quirarte, vice president/treasurer of First Kansas Federal Savings Association.

Another member of Osawatomie Boy Scout Troop 106 has attained the rank of Eagle Scout.

Shaun L. Clark, 16, or rural Osawatomie, will be honored Sunday during a ceremony beginning at 2 p.m. in the United Methodist Church. He is a son of Stephen and Debra Detlefson Clark.

Fourteen members of Omicron Mu Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi held a busy planning session at the home of Jolene Coffelt, 35650 Plum Creek Road, Osawatomie, Monday night.

Nine events were either planned or discussed. A youth dance will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday for young people in the sixth, seventh and eighth grades. The dance will be held in the Osawatomie High School cafeteria.

Plans were made for the Christmas homes tour to be held from noon until 5 p.m. Dec. 10. Homes on the tour will be those of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Butler, Joe Churchill, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Brown and Mr. and Mrs. Larry Thompson. The Osawatomie History Museum will also be included on the tour.

Plans to adopt a needy family at Christmas, the successful Halloween haunted forest, a weekend trip to Branson, Mo., and the valentine dance Feb. 10 were discussed.
