Osawatomie Fire Fighters Battle Two Blazes On Consecutive Nights

Two fires in two nights kept the Osawatomie Fire Department busy for Thanksgiving.
The fire department was first called to a structure fire at 106 Brown Ave. Thursday night at 10:23 p.m.
According to the fire report, a resident at the property reported having electrical problems and then smelling smoke. When the fire fighters arrived, they found a fire venting and heavy smoke. The fire was contained to the attic but the home suffered smoke and water damage throughout.
The fire report lists the owner of the home as Bobby Gibbons of Osawatomie, and the home was being rented by Shawn Harper. Damage was estimated at $50,000 to the home and $20,000 to the contents.
Friday night the fire department was called out again to a structure fire at 39345 Osawatomie Road.
The homeowner reported a visible fire after being alerted by a smoke alarm. On arrival the fire department found heavy smoke and fire.
Osawatomie was assisted at the scene by the Fontana and Paola Fire Departments.
The fire report lists the occupant of the home as Fred Wittenberg.
The structure was a total loss with the home estimated at $80,000 and the contents at $50,000.
