There has been a lot of stealing from freight cars at this place this winter. The special agents of the company have been watching and laying traps for the thieves, but they have not laid any of them by the heels yet. A son of Roll Kelly was hunting on the north side of the Marais des Cygnes river Tuesday afternoon when he ran onto a cache in a draw opposite Oakwood cemetery. He came up town and notified Policeman Hackler and they went and confiscated the stuff. A number of boxes of goods had evidently been thrown off a train as it was slowing up to come into the years. The thieves had slipped off and carried them to the draw to hide them until they could dispose of them.

Mr. Hazen and wife arrived from Coffeyville the first of the week and took charge of the Van Noy Hotel in this city Wednesday morning. Their son-in-law and wife, Mr. and Mrs. G. M.
