Swimmers Second at Home Meet

The Osawatomie/Paola swim team took second place in the first home meet of the season Wednesday night, falling to the depth of Blue Valley Northwest.

Blue Valley NW scored 502 points with Osawatomie/Paola coming in second at 453. Bonner Springs was third and Parsons came in fourth.

“This was a very close meet but Blue Valley Northwest proved it had more depth in the later events like the back stroke, breast stroke and the 400 free relay,” coach Sarah Dorsett said. “Those are areas to concentrate on over the next month.”

Jared Auten had another good meet, breaking the school record in the 500-meter freestyle with a time of 5:52.12. Auten also won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:58.73. Nathan Laudan was fourth and Ryan Macek came in eighth in the event.

Daniel Dorsett won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:23.32 and placed first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:03.57.

Jesse Prue won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.81 and Grant Maimer was third at 26.39.

Austin Johnson was second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:16.94. Joey Clinton was second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:00.18.

Osawatomie/Paola also won two of three relays.

Dorsett, Patrick Kennedy, Maimer and Prue won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:58.43.

Maimer, Prue, Dorsett and Auten won the 400-yard freestyle with a time of 3:51.30.

In the 200-yard freestyle, Auten, Maimer, Dorsett and Laudan took second with a time of 1:44.09.
