Trojans Sixth In Tourney

Inconsistancy dogged the Osawatomie boys’ basketball team as it went 1-2 to earn sixth place in the Spring Hill Invitational last week.

The Trojans fell to Louisburg in the opener, then came back to beat Bishop Ward before falling in the final game to Piper.

In the opening game against Louisburg, Osawatomie led the Wildcats by seven points but watched the lead evaporate to a tie at halftime. Louisburg then outscored the Trojans 27-15 in the second half. Osawatomie was cold from the 3-point line in the third and fourth quarter and was held to only two points in the fourth. The Wildcats came away with a 43-31 win.

Spencer Booe led the Trojans with 11 points in the game hitting three 3-point shots. Seth Jones and Jacob Vail each scored seven points. Chance Sinclair scored four and Brandon Oakes had two points.

Against Bishop Ward, Jones led the way to a 61-46 win. Osawatomie took an early lead and built on that lead with a strong second half.

The Trojans led 13-7 in the first quarter and 26-19 at halftime. In the second half, the Trojans outscored Ward 35-27.

Oakes added 11 points with Vail scoring 10 and Booe had eight points. Sinclair scored four points for Osawatomie. Jones hit three 3-point shots and Booe had one.

The win put Osawatomie in the fifth-place game against Piper. Again after a strong start, the Trojans surrendered the lead and dropped a 46-45 decision.

The Trojans led 11-6 in the first quarter but lost their lead and were tied with Piper 19-19 at halftime. Osawatomie won the third quarter 17-14 but let Piper take control in the fourth.

Jones led the way with 17 points with Oakes and Vail each scoring nine. Booe had five points and Austin Chisam scored five. Booe, Chisam and Oakes each had 3-point shots.

The boys’ team plays again Friday night at Baldwin.
