Miami County YMCA Names New Director

By Jeff Gulley

The second executive director in the Miami County Family YMCA’s six-year existence reported for work Monday.

Ashley Dooley Wohlgemuth was recently hired to lead the local YMCA making the move to Osawatomie from Boston.

Wohlgemuth is a 10-year veteran of the YMCA, serving as the executive director at the Greater Salt Lake YMCA and most recently working at the West Suburban YMCA in Boston as the executive director of camping services.

But the move to Kansas is a homecoming for her. Wohlgemuth is originally from Atchison where she attended high school before getting a bachelor’s degree from Kansas State University. She had been looking for a chance to move back closer to home.

Wohlgemuth said she is excited to get started in Osawatomie and wants the Y to continue to grow.

“I want to see the Y expand its reach into the county,” she said. “We have a fantastic staff and programs and we need to get the word out.

Wohlgemuth said she loves the family atmosphere of the YMCA and feels the Miami County Y shares that attribute.

“The Y is such a central part of the community,” she said. “It really is a family atmosphere. I spend more hours working than I do at home so it needs to be a place I love.”
