Business Expo Draws Big Crowd

By Doug Carder

A steady stream of residents browsed among the 36 exhibits at the Third Annual Home and Business Expo on Saturday at City Auditorium.

Residents were entertained by music from the combined Osawatomie High and Middle school jazz band, the Band of Oz and members of the Paola School of Dance.

Children had a chance to get their picture taken with the Easter Bunny, with proceeds benefitting Tri-Ko Inc. and Q-104 FM deejay Shane McClintock was on hand to talk with the exhibitors and browsers throughout the event.

“I was very pleased with the turnout,” said Shelagh Wright, director of the Osawatomie Chamber of Commerce. “We had 36 exhibitors (up from around 22 last year), and we’ve had a tremendous response.

“I liked that the Q-104 deejay went around and interviewed all the exhibitors,” Wright said. “I’ve made some notes to self about things I would do differently next year, but overall I was very pleased.”

Mike Moon, owner of Moon’s Hometown Market, was making his way around to the exhibitors’ tables Saturday morning.

“This is a good turnout,” Moon said as he surveyed the crowd and estimated that attendance was up this year.

Wright said the expo provided a good opportunity for businesses to get their names out in front of the public.

The grown-ups had a chance to win some door prizes, and the kids had fun giving the Easter Bunny a hug and talking with radio personality McClintock.

“That’s the first time I’ve been on the radio,” a beaming 9-year-old Rosemary Murry said after McClintock interviewed her. “It was fun.”
