State Wrestling Update: Grimes takes third, Dozier fourth

Zack Grimes and Devon Dozier both took home medals from the Class 4A state wrestling tournament in Salina. Grimes took third place in the 189-pound division, and Dozier took fourth place in the 135-pound weight class.

These updates are brought to you by our sponsors: First Option Bank, Moon’s Hometown Market and Sonic Drive-In.

Brant Johnson has been eliminated from the tournament. Dozier and Grimes await their turns to wrestle today.

Brant Johnson won his opening match in the consolation round by pin. He remains in the chase for a medal.

In what seemed more like a state title match than a semifinal match, Zack Grimes fell to Clay Center’s Zack Anderson 3-1 in overtime. The rematch of last year’s semifinal match had all the expected drama with each wrestler scoring a point in the second and third rounds but Anderson got the takedown in overtime for the win. Grimes will now wrestling tomorrow in the consolation semifinals at 189 pounds.
Devon Dozier also dropped his semifinal match 7-4.
Both wrestlers are guaranteed to medal and can place as high as third.
Brant Johnson wrestles in the first round tomorrow morning. He needs to win three to be in the medal hunt.
